Brandywine Red Tomato is a legendary heirloom variety prized for its exceptional, rich tomato flavor and juicy, meaty flesh. Fruits are large and beefsteak-style, typically 12–24 oz each, with a classic red color and slightly ribbed shape. Plants are indeterminate, producing steadily throughout the season once they begin setting fruit. Best enjoyed fresh, sliced, or on sandwiches, Brandywine Red is a top choice for gardeners who value flavor above all else and don’t mind a plant that takes a little longer to mature in exchange for outstanding taste.

Plant outdoors when the danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 2 to 3 feet apart. Tomatoes can be buried up to the top 2 sets of leaves.
Plant tomato plants in well-drained soil and keep them well-watered but not soggy. A thick layer of mulch helps conserve moisture and control weeds; water the plants once a week, but avoid getting the leaves wet. You may want to choose an organic fertilizer formulated specifically for tomatoes.
Indeterminate tomato varieties often perform best when provided with a trellis or support, since this protects them from various pests and diseases in connection with too much soil contact. Put the supports in place before the seedlings develop vines. Pruning the "suckers," or shoots that grow between the main stem and the branches, will greatly improve the production and strength of the plant.
