A top pick among home gardeners for over 100 years, Little Marvel Pea produces high yields of 3-inch pods filled with 6-9 large, sweet peas. They're delicious eaten fresh, but they are also good for freezing. When you freeze some, you can enjoy a fresh summertime pea taste in the middle of winter. An heirloom variety, Little Marvel has space-saving, semi-dwarf vigorous plants. Like other peas, Little Marvel is a cool-season vegetable and grows best in the spring and fall gardens.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, peas grow best in a sunny location with rich, moist, well-draining soil but are, typically, adaptable to a variety of growing conditions. Nitrogen-fixing plants, peas naturally improve the soil in which they are planted by taking nitrogen from the air and converting it into a usable form in the soil.
A cool-season, semi-hardy vegetable, one of the first to be planted in the garden, pea seeds can be direct sown as soon as the soil is workable in early spring, before the last frost date, ideally with temperatures ranging between 55° to 65°F. They need cold temperatures to germinate and grow and can withstand light frost and temperatures in the 28 to 32°F range. The plants will stop producing when temperatures go above 75°F.
Pick peas frequently when pods are fully formed but still flat with tiny immature peas. Snow peas are delicious in stir-fries with ginger, soy sauce and garlic, but cook very quickly, just until they turn a deeper green color. Or enjoy the juicy pods as you pick them fresh from the vines.
